With the holidays in the rear view mirror and 2011 upon us, it’s time for a gift-sized GLXP roundup— all the GLXP news and highlights for the entire month of December! Directly from Santa, who apparently (as Apollo 8 reported) is an at least part-time resident of the Moon:
- Three teams were selected to recieve initial $500k ILDD contracts from NASA (of the six that were originally nominated): Rocket City Space Pioneers, Astrobotic, and Moon Express!
- The deadline for new GLXP team registration passed on Decvember 31st! The official GLXP Launch Pad blog checked in on some of the prospective new teams trying to make it in before the end-of-year deadline.
- The U.S. Congress passed the America COMPETES Act, granting broad prize authority to all federal agencies!
- DiscoveryChannel.com posted a slideshow featuring the GLXP (including a drool-tastic pic of the Moon :) )!
- The official GLXP site posted video interviews with teams Frednet and Barcelona Moon, as well as with teams Part Time Scientists and Synergy Moon!
- Team Synergy Moon blogged about cooperative broadcasting opportunities, lunar lander rocket motor development, a rockin’ pirate radio roboticist, and space and Croatia!
- Team SELENE blogged about a solid steam rocket motor prototype,solving a chemical puzzle, and the combustion behavior of hexamine!
- Aspiring team Puli’s last funding hurdle was featured by the Budapest Report!
- Team White Label Space posted a first look at their rover’s solar array, and an interview with a Japan-based team member!
- A prospective West Australian team posted a theme song :)
- Team ARCA posted a video featuring their supersonic carrier plane!
- Team Astrobotic posted an animation of their lander’s ramp mechanism!
- Team Moon Express’ leader Bob Richards was on The Space Show!
- Team Rocket City Space Pioneers blogged about Huntsville Center of Technology work for the team, and about one team member’s journey!
- Team Part Time Scientists posted a recap of 2010 coverage of the team, and blogged about the cost of bean-bag-esque rover wheels :)
- Evadot posted a new update to their unofficial GLXP Scorecard!
